Amazing Love Corrie Ten Boom

1. Amazing Love – Corrie ten Boom

Description: Following her miraculous release from a Nazi concentration camp, Corrie ten Boom refused to give into the weakness of anger, claiming, “Forgiveness requires more strength than hatred.” Sharing incredible stories of encounters with people from all walks of life, Corrie illustrates how a childlike faith in the wisdom and love of God pushes us to forgive the seemingly impossible.

About the Author: It is hard to overestimate the impact of the life of Corrie ten Boom. She and her family risked their lives by hiding Jews in occupied Holland during World War II. Arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Ravensbruck, the notorious Nazi concentration camp, she found for herself the victory that overcomes the world. After being miraculously released, Corrie began an international ministry of writing and speaking. Her extensive traveling to share Christ and counsel the hurting made her a worldwide witness, or, as she put it, a “tramp for the Lord.” Corrie died in 1983, on her 91st birthday.

The Calvary Road3. The Calvary Road – Roy Hession

Description: Do you long for revival and power in your life? Learn how Jesus can fill you with His spirit through brokenness, repentance, and confession in this updated version of Hession’s classic, The Calvary Road. In the course of eleven chapters, Hession emphasizes the need for personal revival in life with Christ.

About the Author: Roy Hession, a successful evangelist in England, knew he had lost the power of the Spirit in his life – a terrible feeling as he led his evangelistic campaigns. In 1947, Hession met leaders of the East African Church which was then experiencing a sweeping revival, and recognized his deep personal need. It was like starting the Christian life over as he came humbly to the Cross. The principles which the Lord taught him were first published in 1950 as The Calvary Road and are now available in over 70 languages. Hession’s other titles include We Would See Jesus, Be Filled Now, and many others.

4. Holy Desperation – Vance Havner

Description: “Every one of the great heroes of faith were desperate people,” Vance Havner reminds us. “Daniel in the lion’s den, the Hebrew children in the fiery furnace, Elijah and Isaiah, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, the disciples in the storm, Jacob at Jabbok, Moses at the Red Sea, David facing Goliath, the four lepers at the gate of Samaria—every one of them on the spot, desperate.” God delights in blessing those who are desperate for Him. When we feel far from God and need a fresh touch from Him, when we want to obey Him more than anything else, we are becoming desperate. And when we desperately need God and want God more than anything else—we will find Him and be blessed.

About the Author: From a humble beginning in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Vance Havner was called to preach.  Licensed at twelve and ordained at fifteen, he preached all over America.  Havner became one of the best-loved and renowned revivalists of the twentieth century. His home-spun storytelling, quick wit and powerful Christ centered preaching made him a favorite preacher for over seventy years. Billy Graham called him the most quoted preacher in America and said that Vance “used the Word of God like a sword.  You pick any one of his books and you could sense the presence and power of the Holy Spirit leaping off those pages.”

An Urgent Need for Ukrainian Refugees

An appeal for the Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Hungary and Romania:

CLC International does not have a presence in Ukraine.

However, we do have many contacts with publishers there, and we have bookshops and dedicated staff in the bordering countries of Hungary, Poland and Romania which have already welcomed over one million refugees.

Over the past days we have been coordinating with Ukrainian Evangelical publishers and distribution channels for refugees on the ground in all of these countries. Our desire is to freely provide the Scriptures, an evangelistic book, and books and Bibles for children – all in the Ukrainian language.

Woman with Ukranian childThe Lord is doing great things in helping us bring this together for the Ukrainian refugees!

  • Josh McDowell Ministries will pay for CLC to print 50,000 copies of More Than a Carpenter.
  • A publisher in Lviv, Ukraine can provide us with two different Bibles for children – 1,000 copies each. They are still able to get them across the Polish border, but we must act quickly, and we need the funds to purchase these Bibles.
  • Christian Focus Publishing has generously offered us the files for many Ukrainian children’s books. All we need is the money to print them.
We have Christian printers ready to print these titles in Poland.
  • We are also working on printing tens of thousands of New Testaments for free distribution in the Ukrainian language, hopefully in collaboration with the Bible Society or another Christian organization.

In this historic moment, we are looking to the Lord to raise up donors to help CLC International purchase the books and the Bibles for children and to print various titles and the New Testaments.

Friends, the need is huge as you can imagine. We will do as much as we can according to the funds that we receive. What is clear is that the need is urgent and CLC is in a unique position to help provide New Testaments and books and Bibles for children over the next weeks and months.

Introducing Our New Director of Publishing, Dan Balow

Last October, Jim Pitman, who had been filling the role of Publisher for CLC USA on an interim basis, asked Dan Balow to become CLC’s new Director of Publishing. Dan had served on CLC USA’s advisory board for several years, was well acquainted with CLC and our publishing operations, and was happy to join our team in November.

Dan started in Christian publishing in 1983 with David C. Cook. Over the years, he worked in acquisitions of new books, audio books, digital publishing, marketing, sales, and translation rights management.

He worked at Tyndale House Publishers from 1992-2006 where he developed a wide-ranging perspective on the industry through his involvement with hundreds of authors, thousands of books and a love for the business. Getting to know and work with Ken Taylor helped him develop a ministry perspective on publishing.

Dan served on the board of the Evangelical Christian Publisher’s Association and was board chairman of the Global Publishers Alliance, an ECPA group involved in mentoring Christian publishers in other countries. He was also involved with Media Associates International’s LittWorld conferences.

His current approach for CLC Publications is to establish partnerships with like-minded ministries and publishers to enhance our sales and distribution efforts, to upgrade our audio/ebook efforts, and to arrange publishing agreements with various ministries that align with CLC’s publishing goals.

“We accomplish more when we find ways to work together to make something more fruitful than if we worked alone,” comments Dan. “CLC’s legacy and reputation makes us a good partner for many ministries.”

Dan is a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois and has been married to Carol for 40+ years. They live in Wheaton, Illinois and have four grown children and six granddaughters.
