“In my lifetime, worship has changed from something we do before an audience of God to something a few semi-professionals do for an audience of us. In this thoughtful book, Danny Byram draws from his vast experience in many countries to explore the impact of this change. What have we lost and what do we need to regain? Danny was my worship leader for years, and he has earned the right to be heard.”

“We have all heard about ‘worship wars,’ in which people squabble over musical forms. This book digs much deeper. It focuses not on form, but on the what and why of worship. Most Christians have opinions about worship styles. What is more important is making sure that we are truly worshipping. This is a book worth reading.”

“In Wallpaper Worship, Danny Byram defuses all the pointless dichotomies that so many books on worship get lost on. He gets to the core issues as only someone who has been involved for decades in shaping worship services, both great and small, could do. This book is not about changing our methods, but how our hearts can be changed by shifting priorities and focus and by learning to truly care for those who find themselves simply showing up and lining the walls during worship.”

“Danny Byram helps us to understand the necessity of being spiritually alive and thoroughly committed to worship, which begins with God and His glory rather than with ourselves and our preferences. Wallpaper Worship is biblical, practical, and a vital resource for congregations and for those who lead them.”

And, he understands how to help other people worship. This book gleans from his extensive international ministry and years of teaching. It will make you think. It will also make you want to worship like you never have before.”

Wow, Danny Byram has hit the nail on the head with his new book! It’s a refreshing review of current worship practices. Many are missing real worship — like its just wallpaper, not the real substance of knowing Christ. Danny defines and explains easily and writes clearly. Those who know Danny will recognize his voice quickly. He is filled with the real stuff and God is glorified in this book. He traces the roots and explains what worship is and what it isn’t and what can be missing from many worship experiences. It’s not about traditional music or about contemporary music; it’s about the presence of God. If you have experienced real worship, then you know the inexpressible joy that you want others to share. I pray this book changes many current worship experiences. It’s terrific!

A very important book. I am neither a musician nor a pastor, just a Christian who likes to sing and hear the Word preached and wants to grow closer to God in and through my worship experiences. This book has helped me to understand all that goes into a meaningful “worship” service, and what I can do to make my “going to church” to be more like communion with my Lord in fellowship with my brothers and sisters in true worship of Him who is worthy of it. For Christians musicians and pastors a must read, but also very helpful and enlightening for laymen like me.

Danny Byram’s book is artfully and skillfully written. He looks at at both sides of music ministry, traditional and contemporary, as well as church history. It ministered to me personally and was both interesting and convicting. I somewhat expected it might be a a way to criticize church leadership, but I found it convicted me that I so often as a worshipper not just participate in but want “wallpaper worship.” Even the Appendixes were good reading! Through the years it has been a privilege to see Danny’s developing ministry and his faithfulness to the Word. He believes what he sings, “keeping the main thing the main thing.”

This book challenges the status quo of what worship has become. Danny doesn’t bash any approach, strategy, or “how’s” of worship, but he does push us to always ask “WHY” we are doing what we are doing. I think this book has come at a very good time, as worship “music” is better than it’s ever been and getting better. However, if our congregations aren’t engaging with what we’re doing, then what’s the point? This book aims to end this “wallpaper worship.”

Wallpaper Worship is right on and really spoke to my heart! It expressed something I’ve felt for a long time but have not been able to put into words; that true worship is all about Jesus and not about us! I’ve already given a copy of this book to the worship leader at our church and another one to good friends who are worship leaders at their church. Good work, Danny Byram!

Danny Byram has a way with words. In his book, Wallpaper Worship, he brings to light so many things I had never considered when worshipping. I think we all have a tendency to become distracted when worshipping for different reasons. It is too easy to forget what we’re doing: Worshipping the Most High God. It all starts with US. We have to change our own mindsets, our own hearts before anything else. Danny brings us back to this truth with fun anecdotes and well-researched history that point us to the way worship has been done, before pointing us to how things might be better in the future if we remember why we do what we do in the first place.
